Who We Are
About Us
At Practical Overlanding, we’re not just building gear — we’re building freedom, adventure, and a deeper connection to the outdoors. Born from decades of experience and a relentless drive to create better, more reliable equipment for the overlanding community, our team is here to elevate your journey — wherever the road (or trail) leads.
Curt – Founder & The Outdoor Man
Curt is the heart and soul of Practical Overlanding. With more than 35 years spent in the backcountry — hunting, fishing, flying parachute engines, and mastering every inch of the outdoor lifestyle — Curt is the real deal. He’s not just passionate about the outdoors, he lives it. His hands-on knowledge and love of self-reliant adventure shape everything we do.
Buzz – Co-Founder & Marine Electrician
Buzz brings precision, creativity, and craftsmanship from the sea to the land. A marine electrician by trade and a master of vintage wooden boats, Buzz is also an artisan woodworker who restores classic surfboards in his spare time. Raised among the apple orchards of New Zealand, he found his love for van life during long summers spent camping with his family. His expertise in power systems and fine detail work helps ensure our builds are as functional as they are beautiful.
Will – Co-Founder & Architect of Adventure
Will is an architect and custom woodworker with a builder’s soul and an adventurer’s spirit. Raised on a ranch in Missouri, he started restoring vans as a teenager under the mentorship of his dad and godfather. With a hammer in hand since the age of eight, Will brings a deep respect for structure, form, and function to every project — ensuring our overlanding rigs and gear are as rugged as they are refined.
